Terms & Conditions
- Minimum age 17.
- Maximum class size is 15 students per class.
- A place cannot be guaranteed if your Booking Form is received less than 4 weeks before the course starting date. We will however register students later than this if there are spaces.
- ELT cannot guarantee that your place will be kept if you do not arrive by the date planned - enrolments may be cancelled if no contact is made within 2 days of the course starting date.
- The balance of fees due must be paid at the start of the course otherwise we reserve the right to cancel the course. The course fees do not include the cost of books, which must be bought for each class (except conversation).
- The Registration Fee is non-refundable.
- Please ensure that you meet entry and visa requirements. ELT cannot be held responsible if you cannot get or extend a visa.
- Students will not receive a course refund if they decide to cancel their course after the course has started. However, if their course is longer than four weeks, they may apply for a credit for the unused part of the course (excluding the first 4 weeks). This course must start no more than six months after the cancellation date and cannot be transferred to another student, or used for 1-1 tuition. Course credits are not available for 1-1 courses. Students will receive a full refund of tuition fees paid if they cannot take up their place at ELT because they cannot obtain a student visa. In this case, they or their recruiting agent must write to the Registrar and include a copy of the rejection letter received from the British Council. Please note that registration fees and accommodation fees are non-refundable. ELT will charge students if they cancel before the start of a course: General English courses - more than 4 weeks before start of course 10% of total course fees will be kept; 2-4 weeks before start of course 20% of total course fees will be kept; less than 2 weeks notice 20% of total course fees + accommodation placement + one week’s accommodation. For 1-1 tuition fees - more than 4 weeks before start of course 50% of total course fees will be kept; less than 4 weeks notice; no refund. Refunds will be made only to the person or institution who paid the fees. Refunds may take up to three weeks to process. ELT will consider exceptional circumstances to those described above on a case by case basis on direct application to the Registrar. We strongly recommend that students take out insurance in case they are unable to start a course or to complete it, for reasons outside of their control such as illness.
- If you book your course through a third party, such as a travel agency, ELT will abide by their cancellation procedures.
- Fees are not transferable.
- There is no reduction in fees when a course includes a Public Holiday. Any 1-1 lessons missed due to Public Holidays will be rescheduled.
- Holidays: in all cases you should plan to take your holidays between terms, in ELT holiday times. During Summer School holidays can be arranged providing 4 weeks’ notice is given. In other terms holidays cannot be taken, except in exceptional circumstances.
- ELT expects commitment from students. If a student’s attendance falls below 80% in any 4-week period (medical and extreme personal circumstances excluded) we reserve the right to cancel the course without refund of fees.
- Please note that we expect you to attend class and we expect you to show respect to other students, and to the school. We also expect that you will act in accordance with UK law, and to behave in a reasonable way at all times. If you do not, we will send you a warning letter, and if your attendance or behaviour does not improve, we will arrange for you to attend a meeting with a member of staff. If these procedures do not produce the required change, we reserve the right to terminate your course. Under these circumstances, there is no refund of fees.
- Where illness or visa issues are involved appropriate evidence (eg doctor’s certificate, immigration notice) must be shown.
- Course reservations are made on the basis of a student’s Entry Test. If a student re-tests at a significantly different level ELT cannot guarantee that an alternative course will be available. We will try, however, to offer the option of other courses to the same value.
- ELT may cancel or close a class if there is an insufficient number of students. In this case fees will be reimbursed for any lessons paid for but not held.
- Prices may be slightly modified by the school administration without notice.
- Students are not insured by ELT against illness, accident, theft or loss. Personal insurance is strongly recommended.
- We very much want our students to be happy with the teaching and the services provided by ELT. If at any time you are not happy, we do have a complaints procedure which is included in the documents you will receive when you join the school.
- Finally please let us know if there is anything you do not understand in these Terms and Conditions!
